Robert Johnson was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina on August 31, 1948, to Jesse and Ethel Johnson. He is the third of nine children and has two children of his own, Michael and Kimberly. As Vietnam Veteran Robert later relocated to Brooklyn, New York, after an honorable discharge.

He graduated from Eastside High School and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Long Island University.

Since 1994, Robert has been a member of St. Paul. He actively participated in the Eldad-Medad Bible Study Class, youth ministry and served as the vice president of ASAFO. Robert enjoyed volunteering around the church and continued this commitment even after becoming a "Man In Training," eventually leading to his consecration to the Board of Elders in 2007. Over the years, he volunteered for Maafa transportation and the Hospitality ministry. Elder Robert Johnson also serves as a Gatekeeper.

Robert retired from Command Financial in 2010.
