Gwendolyn Warner
Born on September 30, 1943, in Harlem Hospital, New York, NY, Gwendolyn Georgette Warner is a woman of faith, service, and resilience. The middle child of three daughters, she was raised by her late parents, George and Emily Warner, alongside her siblings Thelma and Dolores. Gwendolyn was married to the late Charles Venable and is the proud mother of two sons, William and Raheem Warner, who have since passed on to the Church Triumphant. She also cherishes her three grandchildren: Dasani, Rahmani, and Ahmed and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews especially Carter.
A 1961 graduate of Clara Barton High School, Gwendolyn began her career at Lutheran Medical Center shortly after graduation, where she served in various capacities. Starting as a Nurse’s Aide and Unit Clerk, she retired in 2005 after a fulfilling career as an Assistant Staffing Coordinator. Gwendolyn also worked part-time with the Salvation Army Gaines Afterschool Program/Urban Leadership Program as an Assistant to the Site Coordinator. From 1996 through June of 2011 Gwendolyn made a significant impact on the lives of students who attended the program as well as those learning leadership skills as youth counselors.
Since 1984, Gwendolyn has been an active and devoted member of St. Paul, contributing her talents to several ministries. She has served in the Redemptive Turf Ministry, registered voters, and taught in the LAMBS Ministry, where she encouraged the youth. Additionally, she led the Compassion Ministry and, in March 1987, was catechized and consecrated with thirty-three other women into the Daughters of Zelophehad, later known as the Council of Wise Jewels.
In her spare time Gwendolyn loves watching movies and reading her bible.
Her favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13.
